ROMONTA, leading expert in the material utilization of lignite, is extracting high-quality raw montan wax from bitumen-rich lignite at its plant in Amsdorf. Close collaboration with our customers is highly important to us. We create wax products according to their specific needs and requirements. Furthermore, we actively participate in expert networks to ensure the long-term use of local lignite deposits.

The production of raw montan wax, based on a patent by the Hamburg chemist Edgar von Boyen from 1897, has been carried out from the very beginning by using continuously improved production technology, now implemented in a modern high-tech process. Montan wax, with its unique characteristics, is still used today as an important raw material in many industries. Despite countless new developments in synthetic waxes, montan wax products from Amsdorf were thus able to maintain their position in the world market.
Investments in industrial transformation
ROMONTA is a major industrial site in the Mansfeld-Südharz region. Since 2020, in collaboration with our shareholder, GETEC Group, we have been further expanding our business areas and investing in a successful future that is both environmentally friendly and economically sustainable. With the commissioning of our new power plant in summer of 2024, the foundation has been laid for a sustainable and nearly CO2-neutral montan wax production.

ROMONTA promotes a proactive location policy, driven by a long-term strategy to produce montan wax through innovative and strategically oriented investments, while expanding into other sectors such as soil treatment and the thermal processing of municipal waste. We continue to grow our business areas in an environmentally friendly, sustainable, and cost-effective manner. These efforts help secure the nearly 400 jobs at the Amsdorf industrial site in the long term run.
